Hoax of the month--Budweiser frog screen-saver. (Viruses).(Brief Article)
Information Systems Auditor, November, 2002
The Budweiser hoax is scare-mongering rather than a hoax that actually cons the user into harming their personal computer (PC) in some way. The Budweiser beer company placed a download for a Budweiser Frogs screen-saver on its website in 1997. Far more recently, this has been subject to a hoax, as currently there is no virus, or Trojan horse, masquerading as a Budweiser frog screen-saver.
Users will receive the following e-mail: "DANGER!!!VIRUS ALERT!!! This is a new twist. Someone is sending out a very desirable screen-saver the Budweiser Frogs. But if you download it, you will lose everything!!! Your hard drive will crash!!! DON'T DOWNLOAD THIS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!! IT JUST WENT INTO CIRCULATION YESTERDAY, AS FAR AS WE KNOW. ... BE CAREFUL. PLEASE...
