PROJECT OVERVIEW:

A French/Russian joint venture, operating under the name of CONSORTIUM KOZLODUY, was recently awarded a contract to modernize the local Kozloduy nuclear power station. The partners in the planned undertaking include France-based FRAMATOME ANP and ATOMENERGOEXPORT of Russia.

According to the terms of the award, the partnership will be responsible for upgrading units 5 and 6 of the 3rd generation, Russian-designed, plant. Each of the VVER-1000 pressurized water reactors have a name plate generating capacity of 1000 Mw. The

project is intended to bring the facility up to Western safety standards as well as improving power availability.
