ALL SYSTEMS GO FOR BP'S PILOT PLANT START-UP

BP Exploration (Alaska)'s new $86-million, 300-barrel-per-day (b/ d) GTL pilot plant, under construction in Nikiski, near Kenai since January 2001, is on schedule to begin production of synthetic crude this month (see GTLN, January 2001). The syncrude will be shipped to the Tesoro refinery, located about one mile north of the plant, for final processing.

The pilot plant will convert 3 million cubic feet of Cook Inlet natural gas into synthetic crude using BP's new compact reformer syngas technology, which is a variation on steam reforming technology originally developed by BP in its partnership with Kvaerner.
