GTI Notes Advance in Sulfur Removal from Syngas

The Gas Technology Institute (GTI) recently completed a series of successful 250 pound per square inch gauge, air-blown coal gasification tests at its new Flex-Fuel Test Facility (FFTF) in Des Plaines, Ill.

GTI ran tests with three different coals - low-volatile metallurgical coke, high-ash Indian coal, and low rank lignite - in March in support of a Siemens Westinghouse Power Corp. (SWPC) program to develop novel sygnas cleaning systems. SWPC is the prime contractor for this program, which was co-funded by the National Energy Technology Library of the U.S. Department of Energy.
