Rentech Hoping to Tap Energy Department Funds for GTL Demonstration Plant

Gas-to-Iiquids (GTL) technology developer Rentech Inc. is hoping to obtain a U.S. Department of Energy grant to fund a portion of the design and construction costs associated with building a 10-15 b/d Fischer-Tropsch (FT) GTL plant, the company said in its latest filing with the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC).

Rentech is looking to develop a test GTL plant under a partnership with Headwaters Technology Innovation Group, Inc., known as FT Solutions LLC.

Headwaters and Rentech last year formed a 50/50 joint venture to combine their respective iron-based FT GTL technologies in hopes of delivering a cost-effective iron-based GTL technology.
