Big Y Foods Inc. is celebrating its 70th anniversary in 2006, but the retailer still is in step with current market trends. A Springfield, Mass.-based operator of 54 family-owned stores with outlets in Massachusetts and Connecticut, Big Y is responding to the greater consumer interest in tasty and convenient take-out and prepared foods by competing with quick-service restaurants for lunch and dinnertime business.
