New Yale Center Focuses on Public Health

To ensure that the public health workforce in Connecticut is able to mount a swift, coordinated response to disasters, acts of terrorism and disease outbreaks, the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at Yale (EPH) will use a $4.5 million, five-year grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to establish the Yale Center for Public Health Preparedness.

"In the wake of hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma, public health preparedness and training for both our existing public health work force and our students is imperative," said Brian Leaderer, Susan Dwight Bliss Professor, interim dean of public health and chair of the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, who serves as principal investigator on the grant.
