Nokia mobile scanner takes RFID into service

Mobile phone company Nokia says its new software will enable real-time, two-way interactions between a client's existing back-office systems and its field personnel.

Applications of the system are said to include the sending of information on location, work time ortask status confirmation from the field to the office and the receiving of information, such as service instructions or work assignments in the field.

The most innovative aspect of the new system is that Nokia has installed a radio frequency identification (RFID) scanner into its mobile, with integration into its mobile functionality to communicate with despatching software to verify things like job arrival and job completion.
