Oracle's SPL takeover puts question mark over Sidewinder's future

Computing giant Oracle has strengthened its grip on the enterprise field service applications market with its acquisition of SPL WorldCroup for an undisclosed sum, taking It firmly into the utility space.
SPL WorldCroup, currently owned by private equity funds managed by GFI Energy Ventures LLC, targets the utilities market with its operations management software and, earlier this year, itself acquired Sidewinder, the field workforce scheduling software company.
At the time, SPL said it would continue Sidewinder's commitment to the wider field service market. However those plans for the operation are now thrown into question.
Oracle it seems is attracted by SPL's utilities position and will shift SPL management and employees into a dedicated global utilities...
