Intel Invests $2 Billion for New Wafer Fab.(in Leixlip, County Kildare, Ireland)(Company Operations)(Brief Article)

Intel plans to invest $2 billion to expand manufacturing operations by adding a new wafer fabrication facility at its European manufacturing operations in Leixlip, County Kildare, Ireland. Designated Fab 24, the new fab will include 135,000 square feet of cleanroom with slightly more than 1 million square feet of space for the total facility. Construction will begin immediately, with first production expected in the second half of 2001.
When the new facility is completed, Intel's cumulative investment in manufacturing facilities in Ireland will total approximately $4.5 billion.
