Atlanta- Havertys' November sales were down 7.7% from the same month last year with same-store sales off 10.7%, the retailer reported.
"Our November sales results were not out of line with our expectations given the housing weakness in many of our markets and mortgage financing concerns. These and other factors continue to cause a challenging environment for retail sales of home furnishings," said Clarence Smith, president and CEO of the Atlanta-based retailer.
November sales of $72.6 million were down from $78.6 million in November 2006.
For the first 11 months of the year, sales of $713.8 million were down 9.1% from $785.2 million in the comparable period of 2006, with same-store sales down 10.9%.
Havertys operates 123 stores in the South and Midwest.
