New support for Vivitar: the 70-year-old camera company gets marketing, product push following acquisition by Syntax-Brillian.(Trends & Technology)

The name of HDTV-maker Syntax-Brillian Corp. may be unknown to those in the photo industry. But with its acquisition last fall of Vivitar Corp., the name of the Tempe, Ariz.-based company will become a bit more familiar.
In November 2006, Syntax-Brillian acquired Vivitar for $26 million in stock. Vivitar is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Syntax-Brillian and has moved its North American headquarters to the Syntax-Brillian location in City of Industry, Calif. Vivitar also maintains its branches in Hong Kong, France, and the United Kingdom.
