Pennsylvania State University mechanical engineers teamed with medical and pharmaceutical researchers to develop a computer-- generated "virtual stomach"to aid in the design and delivery of new tablet formulations as well as help explain diseases of the stomach and basic gastric function.The simulation reveals the path and longevity of extended-- release tablets that are designed to remain in the stomach while releasing medication.
