An adviser has praised GE Life's "consumer friendliness" for providing its potential annuity clients with a quote-guarantee period.

David Marlow, marketing director of Surrey-based Alexander Forbes Financial Services, said the distance marketing directive that came into force last month could have an impact on the rate that people buying an annuity eventually get.

He said: "The DMD is a great concept, although there is that risk that customers could suffer a drop in annuity rates during the cooling-off period, and end up with a lower rate than initially expected.

"Obviously this would be very upsetting to consumers, and I think it is very consumer-friendly of GE Life to offer the guaranteed rate."
