TUC backs compulsion over pension provision.(Trade Union Congress)(Brief Article)

THE Trade Union Congress has backed calls for the introduction of compulsion to the UK pensions system.

Speaking at the Pensions at the Crossroads conference at the London Stock Exchange, Brendan Barber, TUC general secretary, explained what reforms the TUC is expecting.

He said: "Something needs to be done as poverty in old age is unacceptable. The TUC has been campaigning for compulsion strongly but this is no easy policy.

"We need a strategic politician -- someone who can look beyond tomorrow's news headlines and say we need compulsion. If this is said then no-one would be able to dismiss it."
