Norwich Union has been criticised for turnaround times on protection applications that are taking four times as long as the best performing providers.

Protection brokers Life Policies Direct has produced figures that show Norwich Union is taking an average of 40 days to issue acceptant terms for life assurance and critical illness policies, compared with the best performer, Friends Provident, which averaged 11 days.

Life Policies Direct ranked providers in terms of average times, excluding providers that had received less than 20 applications in the period between 1 May and 31 July this year.

While Friends Provident was clear winner, Scottish Equitable was second on 19 days and times increased steadily with Axa at second worst on 36 days,...
