Britons 'have the skills' for start-ups.

When it comes to starting up a business, nearly half of the UK population believe they have the right skills, but less than 10 per cent plan to set up their own company with the next three years, according to a report.

Research from the 2006 Global Entrepreneurship Monitor said more effort needs to be put in to show people that starting a business is a good career option.

Rebecca Harding, a senior fellow for the London Business School and director of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor, cited two main reasons why there was such a gap between those who had the skills and those planning to start up a business.
