As an introduction to the most quoted business leader of the last month, it would not do her justice to comment on her family situation or her appearance, easy crutches though they are. And let us not even start wheeling out the dusty 'sisters are doing it for themselves' rubbish.

Ms Gadhia, currently chief executive of Virgin Money, is simply one of those people built to achieve, and at 46, she is the odds on favourite to take on the Northern Rock challenge.

So perhaps not Westminster material but she is certainly increasingly comfortable with being so unceremoniously thrusted into the spotlight in recent weeks: "In a sense I did not think I would like being under the spotlight, but I realised that it is important in order to do what we need to do....
