....In a move to allow restaurants to play music without paying a fee to the songwriter under copyright laws, both the Senate and House are considering measures known as the Fairness in Musical licensing Act. Introduced earlier this year, the House version, H.R. 789, has become an amendment in Resolution 390. The measure would exempt restaurants from the copyright laws because no admission fee is charged. The House passed the amendment by an overwhelming margin and the Senate has yet to act on its version.
