The consumer group that brought attention to improper use of the term "fresh" on the labeling of processed food products such as Citrus Hill's "Fresh Choice" orange juice from concentrate, and Ragu's "Fresh Italian" jarred pasta sauce, has asked the Food and Drug Adminsitration to look at what it calls "another misuse of the term "fresh." The Washington, DC-based National Consumer League found promotional materials for Firebaugh, CA-based Old California processed tomato products that include a "fresh" tomato logo and "fresh from the field" claim misleading, and urged FDA to stop this practice in the same way the agency stopped other misuses of the term "fresh."
