Top supermarket companies are making it clear that consolidation isn't the only game in town as food retailers focus on emerging product categories, store labels, new formats and other devices to grow the top line, according to comments made at Credit Suisse First Boston's Food and Drug Retailing Conference, reported by Supermarket News. Kroger Co., based in Cincinnati, OH, has achieved integration synergies of $380 million from its acquisition of Fred Meyer Inc., a full year ahead of schedule and during 2000, the company introduced more than 1,000 corporate brands, including Private Selection.
