Associated Grocers' $94 million refinancing deal has given the company "a new lease on life," executives said, reported Seattle Post-Intelligencer (Oct. 26). The Seattle, WA-based cooperative, which provides food, general merchandise and retail services to about 340 grocery stores in the Northwest, Alaska and Hawaii, was facing the likelihood of bankruptcy, a merger, or an outright sale.

Associated Grocers sold a warehouse in Kent, WA, consolidating the majority of its distribution at its 1.2 million-sq. ft. warehouse in South Seattle. In addition, it combined warehouse operations with Unified Western Grocers, Portland, OR and reduced its staff from more than 1,400 to 1,100.
