Food Institute Report, The, April, 2002

Barbara Radwin Corporation, Northridge, CA, has recalled approximately 2,700 pounds of fresh chicken salad products that contain undeclared eggs. The product being recalled is 12 oz. packages of "TRADER JOE'S CURRIED CHICKEN SALAD." The product was produced between April 9-13 and was distributed to retail stores in AZ, CA, NV, OR, and WA.

FDA is warning consumers not to eat puffer fish harvested from the Titusville, FL area because these fish may contain a naturally occurring toxin that can cause serious illness or death. Such marine toxins are known to be a byproduct of algae found in seawater. The symptoms of this toxin are predominately neurological: tingling and burning of the mouth and tongue, numbness, drowsiness, and incoherent speech.
