The National Restaurant Association and the California Farm Bureau Federation both commended President Bush's proposal to approve a temporary worker program, which would allow certain illegal immigrants working in the U.S. to remain in the country, reported Fox News Channel (Jan. 8). The program would be open to all undocumented workers now in the U.S. Applicants who can show they have a job--or for those still in their home countries, a job offer--would get an initial three-year work permit that would be renewable for an unspecified period.
"The restaurant industry is the nation's largest employer of immigrants, currently 1.4 million, with a long and proud history of providing career opportunities to people from all cultures and backgrounds," said Steven C....
