Coffee chain to speed up store openings.(Brief Article)

Starbucks Corp. will accelerate store openings beginning this summer. Currently, the company's global chain of more than 7,600 stores is growing at about 3.5 per day, or 1,300 per year. As Starbucks works toward its long-term goal of 25,000 cafes worldwide, many new stores will come along highways away from its traditional base in major cities. Of 950 North American openings planned for this year, 325 will be drive-throughs. Notably, the company's existing drive-throughs have been among its most profitable outlets.

Meanwhile, Seattle, WA-based Starbucks is evaluating 150 potential new drinks to exchange into its current lineup. Among the latest new drinks is a strawberries and cream Frappuccino frozen swirl targeted at customers in the UK.
