Food Institute Report, The, February, 2008

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) released its list of top consumer fraud complaints. In 2007, of the 813,899 total complaints received, 32% were related to identity theft. Credit card fraud was the most common form of identity theft (23%), followed by utilities fraud (18%), employment fraud (14%) and bank fraud (13%). Consumers reported fraud losses totaling more $1.2 billion; the median loss per person was $349, according to the FTC.
