ARI to coordinate research to speed up introduction of alternate refrigerants

CHICAGO -- The Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI) announced it is speeding up research and testing of alternative refrigerants to replace chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs).

The association also announced the appointment of James Calm as director of research and technology, a new ARI staff position. Calm will manage research projects, and coordinate ARI's effort with the research activities of federal agencies and the research community.

Refrigerant research is a top priority, said Arnold Braswell, ARI president, at a press conference here last week.
