Insulation helps grocery chain keep dough and produce cold

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah -- Out West, Smith Food King is a household name. This major grocery chain, based here, recently added 14 stores, meat and produce warehouses, and a dairy plant to its 95-store operation.

Other additions included a 58,000-sq-ft dough plant and rack storage freezer in Layton, Utah, where the company makes and freezes dough products. There is also a 30,000-sq-ft freezer addition to the Layton main warehouse, where frozen dough products are kept for shipping.

Big D Construction, Ogden, oversaw both projects. The company's mission: to help make sure temperatures and humidity were stable within the refrigerated areas.
