Desiccant dehumidification system for supermarkets
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- International Cogeneration Corp. (ICC) signed a contract with Village Super Market, Inc., to install and field-test its "DESI/GEN" desiccant dehumidification and cogeneration system in a Hillsborough, N.J., Shop-Rite supermarket.
ICC coupled cogeneration technology with space conditioning. "Supermarkets pose two significant operating challenges," said R. Nim Evatt, ICC's president and chief operating officer.
"First, the average store's electric bill accounts for about 2% of operating costs -- significant when compared to an industry average of 1% operating profit. And second, high store humidity reduces equipment efficiency, causing ice to form on frozen foods and cases,...
