Underfloor system keeps children comfy

PALO ALTO, Calif. - The Standford University Arboretum Children's Center was designed to meet the needs of more than 100 children of faculty, staff, and students from the Stanford University Medical Center and the Children's Hospital at Stanford. Innovative building design and operation are important elements in that effort.

Individual rooms and furniture are designed and sized specifically for the age groups that use them. Additional windows are installed at toddler and crawling level so the youngest children can enjoy the view. There are even "outdoor rooms" with roofs so the kids can burn energy outside when it's raining. The entire building is heated with a Wirsbo underfloor radiant heating system.
