EPA asks DuPont to produce more CFC refrigerants in 95. (Environmental Protection Agency; E.I. Du Pont de Nemours and Company Inc.; chlorofluorocarbon; 1995)

The Environmental Protection Agency has asked E.I. Du Pont de Nemours and Company Inc to manufacture about 84 million pounds of chlorofluorocarbons in 1995. The refrigerants will be used to service auto air conditioning units and for some medical uses. Du Pont had planned to stop production of the ozone-depleting refrigerants at the end of 1994, one year earlier than required by law. Du Pont has invested $500 million in the development of alternative refrigerants.
WILMINGTON, Del. -- So great is the automotive appetite for replacement stocks of CFC-12,, that Du Pont will use its production allowance to manufacturer upwards of 84 million lb in 1995.
