The White-Rodgers division of Emerson Electric Co's HVAC group has made new gas furnace igniters, and continues to market thermostats and air cleaners. Silicon nitride is now being used in gas furnace igniters, although hot-surface technology is still the basis for the new devices. Changes in electronics and their incorporation into thermostat and air cleaner design are also discussed.

TROY, Mich. - Executives of White-Rodgers Division of Emerson Electric Co. visited News editors recently to introduce a new material for gas furnace ignitors, and to discuss the market for thermostats and electronic air cleaners (eac's).
