Speakers addressed the 1997 outlook for the US economy and for the residential construction industry at the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) conference. Economic growth is expected to continue at a steady pace of about 2% in 1997, which should ease fears of inflation. The NAHB estimates that housing starts in 1996 will have rise nearly 8% to reach 1.459 mil, but will fall 7.4% to 1.352 mil in 1997.
