High-tech dehumidification experiment. (space experiment by NASA)

Air Conditioning, Heating & Refrigeration News, July, 1997

NASA astronauts performed a dehumidification experiment to help them develop an efficient way to grow plants when traveling in outer space environments. Plants are necessary as space flights lengthen because astonauts need food, oxygen support and water. The system should minimize moisture in the air, which can harm equipment and experiments.

We'll start this experiment by stating that it is not one that can be done at home. This experiment was performed up in space by NASA astronauts, who try and recycle everything in their rather hostile environment.

In this instance, astronauts hoped to pull moisture from the air (dehumidify), in order to grow plants. What follows is a brief description of the Astroculture experiment and some of the results
