Low-temperature technology: Closed-cycle air refrigeration.(Product Announcement)

LEHIGH VALLEY, Pa. - Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., has introduced a breakthrough technology, known as the closedcycle air refrigeration ('CCAR') system, which uses high-pressure air to economically produce refrigeration at low temperatures ranging from -60 deg to -150 deg F (- 50 deg to -100 deg C).

The first CCAR system, now in operation at Eastman Kodak Co.'s production facility in Rochester, N.Y., has replaced a conventional low- temperature mechanical refrigeration system.

The CCAR unit is producing 50 tons (210 kW) of refrigeration at -100 deg F (-73 deg C). Standard units of up to 200 tons (700 kW) for additional applications at other customer sites are planned, and specialized units will be available as market needs dictate, the company...
