The Region 2 office of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), located in New York City, will switch to 100 percent wind power. According to the EPA, the Region 2 office will be the first EPA office in the country to be completely powered by wind-generated electricity, as well as the largest federal purchaser of clean wind energy in New York state.
The wind energy will be generated at the state's largest wind farm, the Fenner Wind Power Project, located in Fenner, N.Y. EPA's wind energy commitment at the Region 2 office is equal to 6.2 million kwh of wind energy for one year, which is equivalent to the annual electrical output of one and half of the wind turbines at the Fenner project.
