India Post To Act as Certificate Authority.

As outfits like Malaysia Post struggle with their digital certificate ventures, India Post is plowing ahead with plans to set up a Certificate Authority (CA) to provide digital certificates for secure electronic transactions.

The post is currently identifying a technology partner and hopes to have the CA operational by the end of March. India Post executives say it is investing $2.5 million in the venture.

The post plans to target the CA service primarily at government departments, utilities and state-owned businesses. The game plan is to have the various existing and future e-government services ride on top of India Post's Public Key Infrastructure.
