O2 Germany is the latest European wireless carrier to launch a music service, but the first to sign on to use the platform developed by Nokia and Loudeye.
Cell phone maker Nokia and digital media distribution outfit Loudeye announced the mobile music platform last month. Services built on the new platform allow users to browse, search, listen to and download full-length music tracks and ringtones. They can purchase the songs directly from a mobile phone and download them either to the phone or a Windows XP-based PC.
The O2-branded mobile service will also adhere to the Open Mobile Alliance DRM specifications. Music purchases will be billed directly to the user's O2 Germany monthly statement. Customers can also access the O2 music shop via the Internet...
