The Next Generation Wireless Multimedia Services session at Telecom05 featured Paul Petersky, VP of market research at The Management Network Group, with charts that showed the increasing capabilities of mobile networks as they evolved from 2G to 2.5G to 3G. The 3G networks, he said, make possible multiplayer gaming, live video telephony, broadcast TV, music purchases, broadcast radio and music subscription services--all layered on top of existing capabilities such as e-mail, instant messaging, wallpaper and ringtone sales, games and Internet access.
