Yahoo launches social networking site for mobiles.(Brief article)

Yahoo, in a stealth mode, last week quietly launched an experimental social networking service for mobile phone users called Mixd that allows users to send text messages and share videos and pictures among like-minded friends, according to Information Week. Mixd is aimed at the college crowd--teens and young adults, the 18- to 26-year-old demographic that advertisers drool over.

Scott Gatz, senior director of Yahoo's advanced products group, said, "It's really an experiment. We're putting it out to consumers to see how they use the product."

The site says, "Mixd is about going out. Coordinate last-minute meetups, share pictures and videos from your phone and remember last night on a Web site we create for you, automatically."
