BSkyB touts coming 'iTunes rival'.(ONLINE MUSIC SERVICES)

UK satellite, broadband and telecom provider BSkyB is planning to release an online music service it touts as a rival to Apple's iTunes.

The service is expected to offer a mix of streaming music for computers and TVs for a flat monthly fee, while giving users the ability to buy and save songs that are free of any DRM. Songs purchased should then be able to be played on any MP3 player, including iPods and iPhones from Apple.

BSkyB first announced its plans for a new music service last July when it secured a deal with Universal Music. Confirmed at Mobile World Congress, Sky will be partnering with Omnifone for technical assistance.
