DirecTV v Dish: it's no contest.(BROADBAND BEAT)

DirecTV adds 301,000 subscribers. Dish Network loses 102,000 subscribers.

That's the scorecard for the US' two pay-TV service during 2008's fourth quarter. DirecTV was the knockout winner by a margin of 403,000.

Perhaps accounting for much of the difference is that Dish lost AT&T, its largest reseller, when DirecTV added AT&T to Verizon and Qwest as its major resellers.

Dish has acknowledged that AT&T was a "substantial contributor" to subscriber gains during 2008, having sold about 125,000 customers a quarter last year.
