Amazon starts selling blogs.(DIGIGRAMS)

Online Reporter, The, May, 2009

Amazon.com has started selling blog subscriptions for its popular Kindle e-reader. Kindle owners can now pay to get updated blogs wirelessly on their readers throughout the day, just like newspapers in the morning. Gawker now runs for $2 per month on the Kindle, a far cry less than USA Today's $12 per month or the $15 monthly New York Times.

Kindle has opened it up to allow any and every blog to sell itself to users, but most blogs will only get 30% of the $1 or $2 monthly subscription they sell. Not a bad idea, but it does draw attention to an important shift. By simply not making a Web browser available, the Kindle will be making some money off of content that's normally completely free. An iPhone or an e-reader with a browser now look like much better...
