U.S. economic indicators mixed

Economic indicators were mixed in the past week. U.S. factory orders fell 0.8% in November, after rising 1.4% in October, the Commerce Department reported last week. In addition, factory purchasing managers in the Institute for Supply Management said its services index showed slower growth during December. ISM's index, which includes trucking as well as other services, hit a 54.7 level last month, down from November's 57.4.

Commerce said that construction spending managed its third consecutive gain in November, growing 0.3%, but that was also a slowdown from the 1% gain in October.
