Trucking, EPA seen getting closer to deal on SCR

Negotiations between trucking groups and the Environmental Protection Agency over possible use of selective catalytic reduction to cut diesel-engine emissions appeared headed for a resolution this year, an industry source said after a meeting Oct. 3.

"We had a very good meeting with them. Both groups understand each other's needs much more clearly. I am optimistic we can reach an agreement by the end of the year," said Tim Tindall, director of emissions programs at Detroit Diesel Corp.

Tindall, who attended the meeting at EPA's facility in Ann Arbor, Mich., said other participants included chemical manufacturers and distributors, truck stop operators, truck and engine makers, and fleets.
