FDA Says It May Take Customs Schedule for Border Information

The Food and Drug Administration said last week that it might adopt rules used by the Custom and Border Protection agency for how much advance notice cargo carriers and shippers must provide before food imports reach U.S. borders.
The two agencies said in a Federal Register notice that ' they planned to increase their integration on notice of cargo information and to see if FDA could reduce its separate time requirements by adopting those Customs uses for truck, train and air shipments.
Joseph McCallion, a spokesman for PDA's import operations, said the plan "is not something initiated on the government side. [It] came as a result of feedback from trade."
