October Air Shipments Increase a Modest 1%

Domestic air cargo shipments for October rose 1% from a year earlier, the Air Transport Association reported, for the second-smallest gain of the year after a 0.4% rise in August.
The latest report was a further sign of volatility in air freight data. The October slowdown followed a 7.1% spike in domestic air shipments in September, which had been the largest monthly increase since March, the aviation group said in its monthly traffic report.
Counting international volume, total air cargo shipments for October reached 2.273 million revenue tonmiles, up 7.2% from October 2003, the group said.
A revenue ton-mile is the revenue generated in carrying one ton of freight for one mile.
