Dow, S&P Drop USF From Stock Indexes

The May 24 completion by Yellow Roadway, Overland Park, Kan., of its acquisition of USF Corp. led to several ripples in the organization of financial indexes.

As an independent transportation holding company, Chicago-based USF, which specializes in less-thantruckload carriage, was a member of a Dow Jones index and a Standard & Poor's index.

Truckload carrier Landstar System, Jacksonville, Fla., took USF's place on the Dow Jones Transportation Average, starting May 24, Dow Jones said. The transportation average tracks 20 U.S. transportation stocks, including trucking companies, passenger airlines and freight railroads.
