Graves Says Highway Bill, Tolls, Among ATA Goals

WASHINGTON - Bill Graves, president of American Trucking Associations, said the group's policy goals include pushing Congress for swift passage of a multiyear highway bill, preventing the spread of tolls on interstate highways and changing hazardous-materials security rules.

Graves, in an address to the Transportation Table here on June 3, also said ATA wanted revised driver work-hour rules included in the highway bill, and he said ATA was pushing Congress to provide tax incentives.

Graves said the seven extensions of the previous multiyear highway funding package were "seven too many."

"Congress must act quickly to finish its work, and, perhaps of equal importance, commit themselves to avoid this kind of delay in the future," Graves told the group, which comprises...
