UPS Loses Package of Citigroup Data

The consumer loan division of Citigroup Inc. said June 6 it was notifying its customers that UPS Inc. Tost a parcel in May that contained financial information relating to 3.9 million customers.
Two spokesmen for UPS, the largest corporation in North American trucking, confirmed wire services stories that the package had been lost.
The CitiFinancial division told its customers the computer tapes in the package contained personal account and payment history information - including Social Security numbers - but that it has "no reason to believe that this information has been used inappropriately and we have not received any reports of unauthorized activity regarding your credit or loan."
